Because the mouthpiece is slightly bent away from the bowl, there's enough space between your face and the lighter flame to smoke safely and comfortably. If for some reason you still feel that it's too close, you could use hemp wick or a jet flame lighter to light your bong.

The Thug Life bubbler bong comes complete with a 14,5mm (SG14) bowl with glass "lift-off" handle that lets you lift the bowl out of the bong while smoking, without burning your fingers on the hot glass. This bong has no kickhole or carbhole, so you need to lift the bowl in order to "clear" the bong and draw all smoke out of the pipe. The mouthpiece is comfortably rounded for maximum smoking pleasure.
